Holstebro - The north sea, delightful town and magnificent countryside
www.visitholstebro.dk
To the west: the roar of the North Sea, the broad beaches and the sandy dunes. To the east: the wind sweeps across the water of the Limfjord and the hilly landscape. In the centre: heath and woodland surround the city of Holstebro, with its tempting shops and cultural attractions. And through the heart of it all winds Storå, the second-longest river in Denmark.
As does the theme of culture. Give your senses a treat at one of the fascinating museums of art, at the Theatre of Music, the Odin Theatre, Nr. Vosborg Manor, the St. George Shipwreck Museum and the Hjerl Hede Open-air Museum. In Holstebro, art is to be found among the people, and you are sure to fi nd many variations of it in the streets and squares of the city.
Holstebro is a fantastic town. The atmospheric pedestrian streets are home to more than 200 retail shops along with a host of charming cafés, bars and restaurants. As from spring 2010, vegetable markets will be held weekly on the Kirkepladsen square, and the northern part of the town, close to the ring road, is the site of all kinds of giant retail outlets packed with excellent offers for all ages.
Holstebro has something to suit all tastes - for children and adults alike. So come and help yourself!
Pilgrim tours in the Municipality of Holstebro
There are two pilgrim routes in Holstebro, one each in the eastern and western parts of the
municipality. Both are approx. 100 km long and divided into stages between the churches.
Leafl ets are available for each of the routes, describing the churches, the beautiful and
diverse countryside and the sites of cultural and historical interest you will encounter. And,
naturally, details of places to spend the night, eat lunch and dinner, and shop for supplies for
your walking or cycling trip. At the churches, you will fi nd a small sign with an SMS reference.
Text a search key to the number shown and receive a passage from scripture or information
about the church in return.
Canoeing on the Storå river
The Storå river is a favourite destination for angling and canoeing trips, and the banks are
liberally sprinkled with places to rest, with camp fire areas and wood for the fi re – ideal
spots for enjoying a packed lunch or spending the night. If you feel the need for a touch of
luxury after several nights sleeping under canvas, you will fi nd more comfortable accommodation options – such as campsites, hotels and holiday centres – along the route. Pick up a brochure at the tourist information offices or download information from www.visitholstebro.dk. The website also features clips of the wellknown Danish TV hosts Martin and Ketil relating their latest experiences on the Storå river – in the creative style for which they are famous.
