Dogs on holiday

A holiday's not the same without the family pet

You can go on holiday with a clear conscience even if you have a dog – because you can bring your pet with you.

West Jutland has a host of wonderful holiday houses and campsites that allow pets, located close to both woods and beaches. So conditions are excellent for exploring the West Jutland region as a family.

In woods where dogs are welcome, your pet can run around freely and chase the scents of other woodland creatures. These woods are fenced off to keep dogs and wildlife apart. By law in Denmark, you must keep your dog on a leash in towns and cities, holiday house areas, dunes and planted woods. You must also keep your dog on a leash on the beach in the period 1 April through 31 September.

Remember to bring your dog's basket or blanket with you so that your pet will feel at ease in the unfamiliar surroundings. For additional information about woods where dogs are welcome, contact the tourist information office at your destination, or visit www.friluftskortet.dk to see a map of where these woods are located in Denmark.

• Before you can bring your dog on holiday in Denmark, you must have it vaccinated against rabies.

• Your dog must also have an ID tag.

• Your dog must have a “pet passport” or veterinary certificate.

• Show consideration and clean up after your dog.
